Screening of Bitter gourd (Momordica charantia L.) cultivars against Downy mildew caused by Pseudoperonospora cubensis under field conditions at Tarnab, Peshawar, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan

Abstract
The experiment titled “screening of different bitter gourd (Momordica charantia L) cultivars against downy mildew caused by Pseudoperonospora cubensis under natural epiphytic condition of Tarnab, Peshawar, Pakistan” was conducted at ARI, Tarnab, Peshawar during the year 2019. Eight bitter gourd varieties viz; Rider, SH01, US 475, SAS 395, ISC 451, IS 420, BG 13(Bitter), BG 13(Pasha) were sown and checked for resistance against fungal downy mildew. Experiment was conducted according to RCBD design which was replicated three times. The data indicate that maximum disease severity of 22.333 percent was recorded in cultivars SAS 395 followed by US 475, SH01, Rider and were categorized as moderately resistant. Minimum disease severities 8.33 percent was recorded in cultivar BG 13 (pasha) and was categorized as resistant. However further research is needed to find out the resistance of BG 13 against the fungus in other areas of Pakistan.
