Comparative assessment of milk production and composition of Lassi and Makrani camel breeds under conventional management system in Lasbela region of Baluchistan

Abstract

Present study was conducted to assess the milk production and composition of Lassi and Makrani camel breeds under conventional management system. For this purpose total 300 with 150 animals from each breed were selected to observe the milk composition and milk production of both breeds. The results of our study showed that density, temperature, freezing point and salt content % of Lassi and Makrani camel breed milk was recorded non-significant (P>0.05) at different stages and number of lactations except salt content % was observed significant (P<0.05) differed in Makrani camel breed. The results for added water %, fat %, protein %, SNF %, Ash content % of Lassi camel milk was significant (P<0.05) among different stages and number of lactations. The milk production of Lassi and Makrani camel breed was recorded significantly differed (P<0.05) among different stages and number of lactations. It is concluded that milk of Lassi camel breed contains significantly higher (P<0.05) amount of different milk constants as compared with the milk of Makrani camel breed.
